Curious of what it’s like to travel across Japan? Let these cuties show you
I’ve always wanted to go to ‘The Land of the Rising Sun’ since I was a kid. I am fascinated by their culture, the sights to see and most of all…their adorable cats. It’s amazing to me how much the people of Japan love their cats. They do have Tashirojima, an Island that has more cats than humans living there. They’re also known for their Cat Cafes. They also have working cats like Tama the train master of Wakayama Railway; Iemon, the police cat of Kyoto and many more.
They also have two unlikely guides that are super adorable. Did I mention that they’re also cats?
So if you ever thought of visiting Japan and wonder what it’s like there in spring? Or fall? Let these felines show you.
Meet ‘Nyalan’ (‘nya means ‘meow’ in Japanese), and his apprentice ‘Deshi’. These four-legged travel guides are “image characters” for Jalan, a travel site in Japan. They’ve appeared in commercials for a while now.
These two felines love traveling across Japan with their itty bitty suitcases and sharing their experiences in their Twitter feed.
The photos are adorable and terrific. You can get a good idea of the typical things Japanese people like to do in spring, summer, fall and winter.
You can see there are seasonal flowers blooming, seasonal food, and seasonal activities—whether that’s flying a kite during New Year’s or watching the cherry blossoms.
Not every activity is unique to Japan (of course!) and this is an idealized depiction (of course!). Still, the cats show how Japanese people usually view each part of the year. Take a look at their photos:
When Nyalan met little Deshi.
‘Nyalan, can I please be your apprentice? Pweeze?’
Deshi was finally allowed to travel with Nyalan.
‘It’s so fishy here..’
Is that Mount Fuji?
This is just perfect for summer.
This looks delicious.
They finally arrived.
Playing some card game on their free time.
Time to sleep.. zzzzzzz……
Good morning… breakfast is ready!
Hot spring sounds relaxing..
A perfect day to go walking by the beach. Maybe I should go fishing.
You want some?
Time to buy some souvenirs
Is this a cat, raccoon or owl?
Where are we going next? Fish market?
This is paradise.
Deshi loves looking at sakura trees.
It seems like this is not a good day to fly a kite.
It doesn’t show on Nyalan’s face but he enjoys celebrating Christmas.
After a tiring day of sight seeing… ‘Let’s go back to the hotel.’
Time to relax. Using his iPaw, Nyalan and Deshi share their adventures on Twitter.
